Don’t Bug Me recently took up Jay’s challenge to display oddities that exist around us, which we sometimes need to take a second look at to really become aware of them. Bug’s featured the Happy Ho Upholstery and Athlete’s foot shoe shop, and asked if we could contribute any more amusing sights. The Reject shop immediately came to mind.
It’s new to my town and I initially found the name very off-putting. I didn’t want to buy from a shop full of things previously rejected by other shops, or customers. But once past the front doors, I found it’s goods to be almost identical to the shop it replaced. I still think its funny though, completely terrible, and the strangest name to put on your shop.
On my way to photographing the Reject shop, I spied another name that fits in with Bug’s theme. Gone Potty: over here it means to go crazy, but I think Americans may think of an urgent call of nature.
Unrelated the Bug and Jay’s challenge, but strange all the same, is the fact that at Gone Potty you can purchase an enormous unusable canoe. Where would you put it? Does it appeal to you? Have they gone potty?

We used to have a Reject Shop!! I miss it, they had some good stuff in there!
Gone Potty – that’s funny! What’s the canoe made of? Can you put it on a flat roof to amuse passers by? LOL!

I like the “Gone Potty” one. It can mean either crazy or the necessary business in England. But now, I am wondering, what do they sell, apart from giant, useless canoes?

I wonder if only rejects work in the Reject Shop? There used to be one of those round our way once too.
I’d like a giant, useless canoe if I had a swimming pool. But I don’t, so…
I’ll get my coat…

Jay: you had a Reject shop too? I never knew they were international!
The boat is made of teak, and I guess it would attract a lot of attention if it was in the right location. I use to go past a horse-y shop that had a massive real-life sized plastic horse on the front veranda of the shop… and it was pink- can you believe it?
Bugs: apart from the boat, I think they sell very fancy outdoor furniture and posh ornaments for your garden. It’s all very ‘Far Horizons’ inspired.
English Mum: rejects working there? Ha ha ha.. well, I don’t know. But I did recently overhear a very funny exchange between two male workers there :
“I wouldn’t date my sister, even if she was hot. But I’d date my best mate’s sister.”
Honestly though, the most reject-y bumberly [sic] workers are to be found at Bunnings: the local gardening centre. It’s an Australian owned company, which is great and to be supported. But the funniest and most bumberly people work there.
Moon! The Moon is here. That canoe would go wonderful well with your garden. Why is your nickname-thingy ‘Moon’?
Bugs: I love having so much of your terrific (extended) family visiting my blog!
